Something’s Burning | Shadow work

By Kelsey Templeton

shadow work excels in their approach to psych-rock because of their outwardly unrestrained approach to expressing emotion and intent. Each song I encounter twists something complex, both mentally and sonically, into an atmospheric approach to acceptance. Their newest single, “Something’s Burning”, is no exception. The depth and echo of guitar explores the claustrophobic pains of modern burnout and the way it twists into desire. Hollow and dreamy, the good and bad of modern successes can be felt in the newest single.

Perhaps a serendipidous release, as I come back from my own break due to burn out, “Something’s Burning” feels like a textural background to the slow thaw of rest and into a steadier race for more. The single, and accompanying music video, released on March 3rd and sets the beginning of a new leg of adventures for the local band.

shadow work twists between haunting and catchy with their newest single. The crisp drums keep the forward momentum, sometimes rousing the guitar and vocals together into a frenzy of sound. A spot on representation of the overwhelming feelings of anxiety that can often accompany the issues the single explores.

Mark your calendars for their Something’s Burning Tour in the meantime, with dates in Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, and Denver there is no reason for any Colorado fans to miss their chance to hear them live.
